Man, 60s, dies in early morning crash as Gardaí issue appeal
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man died in an early morning road traffic accident this Sunday.
The tragedy unfolded early on Sunday, May 31, at Carrigans Park, Donamon, Co Roscommon.
The collision involved one car, with one person occupying the vehicle.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the tragedy, and have confirmed the road is currently closed for technical examination.
They added that local diversions are in place, and appealed to any witnesses to come forward.
They said: ‘Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area of Carrigans Park, Donamon, Co Roscommon, this morning, Sunday 31st May 2026 — between 5am and 9am — are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

‘Anyone with any information is asked to contact Roscommon Garda Station on (090) 6638300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
It comes not long after Gardaí revealed they had made 92 arrests for road-users driving under the influence, and 2,250 detections of speeding offences over the bank holiday weekend.
Throughout the weekend, Gardaí have been conducting statutory Mandatory Intoxicant Testing as well as regular, high-visibility policing checkpoints.

Among the most notable speed breaks was a road-user traveling at 93km/h in a 50km/h zone on the N21, Abbeyfeale East, Abbeyfeale, Limerick.
In Kilkenny, a motorist sped at 161km/h in a 100km/h zone ont he n10 in Danesfort.
A statement from Gardaí urged road users to support their efforts to keep everyone safe.
They said: ‘Gardaí will be placing a particular emphasis on detecting those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs this weekend.
‘At no point is it safe or acceptable to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after having an intoxicant such as alcohol or drugs.’
They added that road-users should be mindful of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, and ‘always drive within the speed limit.’
