The staggering truth about what the Colonel is doing to soldiers as Casualty’s Flynn reels

Casualty spoilers follow for Saturday’s (May 30) episode that is now available to view on BBC iPlayer. The episode in question will air on BBC One at 8:25pm.
Flynn Byron’s (Olly Rix) theory about what Colonel Jack Bard (Mark Womack) is doing to his soldiers was confirmed with some help from Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless), leaving him shaken to the core.
Holby ED’S Clinical Lead, as viewers know, has been on edge since crossing paths with Bard at the beginning of the BBC medical drama’s latest boxset Lethal Legacy, which kicked off last month.
It was evident that the two have a tense history, with Flynn having worked as a medic in the army under Bard, whose strict and disciplinarian ways have made it clear that he’s someone you wouldn’t want to cross.
What’s more, there is quite clearly bad blood between the old acquaintances – especially concerning a mysterious figure named Adam – and Flynn was left with reason to suspect that Bard’s methods of training his soldiers was problematic to say the least.
After a young soldier was injured in the recent explosion at Wyvern Estate, Flynn was tasked with treating his injuries. However, he was left spooked when he discovered bruises on his back – bruises which weren’t linked to the injuries he was admitted for.

Wanting answers, Flynn quizzed Private Rory Dickson (Gwïon Morris Jones), who was keeping watch on Bard’s request, about how his fellow solider acquired such injuries. Rory, evidently unsettled, refused to answer, with Bard interrupting Flynn before the interrogation went any further.
Despite Bard’s efforts, however, Flynn’s suspicions persisted. This week, he and Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) were summoned to the woods, where a military training exercise had gone horribly wrong.
Two soldiers had suffered a steep fall into a cave below. One of them, Kevin, was treated by Iain while Flynn tended to Rory – the same Rory from two weeks ago.

Much like with the soldier previously, Flynn spotted injuries on Rory that did not align with the fall. He attempted to dig deeper and even asked Stevie – who was treating Kevin – to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
Stevie ultimately made the discovery Flynn was looking for, sharing her findings – evidence of unreported historic fractures on the soldier.

This further reinforced his belief that Bard has been subjecting his men to hazings and beatings and thus Flynn attempted to keep Rory in the ED for longer, claiming he needed to pass along his prescription.
Rory was visiting Kevin, who was in a bad way and Flynn urged him to open up about what he’s been subjected to. ‘Hazing is normally disguised so people can’t see its effects,’ said the doctor. ‘Injuries left under clothing such as the bruising on your torso and your fractured ribs. Your eye CT shows a classic blowout fracture – the kind of injury caused by a punch. Not by a fall. Someone went too far, didn’t they?’

Private Rory looked as if he might talk had he had a moment longer but villainous Bard interrupted and subsequently ensured that Flynn didn’t get much opportunity to speak to him again before he left.

Enraged, Flynn confronted Bard, telling him he knows what he’s up to but Bard simply stated that he’s ‘keeping his men alive’.
Can Flynn prove what Bard is doing? can he save the soldiers from more abuse and torment? And have we seen the last of Rory?
