FCC wants to label Shows with a Transgender theme unsuitable for Children
The FCC has put the public on notice that it intends to censor programs that have a transgender actor or gender non-binary theme using V Chip technology.
Project 2025 author FCC Chairman Brendan Carr wrote on X that parents have been contacting him about New York and Hollywood programmers pushing “controversial” themes on kids shows.
The Federal Communications Commission is using the presence of “controversial gender identity issues” in children’s television programming as a pretense for questioning how TV ratings are developed and enforced, according to a notice published by the federal agency.
The notice generally assesses TV ratings, but specifically points out that these industry guidelines have rated shows featuring “transgender and gender non-binary programming” as appropriate for children. It argues that parents aren’t provided this information, “thereby undermining the ability of parents to make informed choices for their families,” Mashable reports.
The TV Parental Monitoring Board 2025 Annual Report found that:
“Between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, the Monitoring Board received 170 public comments, including one letter, 21 phone calls and 148 emails. These included 37 comments related to general content or casting, 11 concerning commercials and advertisements and 57 regarding scheduling changes.”
“Only 11 comments involved TV Parental Guidelines ratings, continuing the downward trend in ratings-related complaints observed since 2021.”
“Of the 11 ratings complaints, seven concerned broadcast, cable and streaming services participating in the TV Parental Guidelines and were forwarded to the appropriate representative for review. The remaining four involved nonparticipating streaming services.Where the Board had an established contact, complaints were forwarded directly; otherwise, complainants were encouraged to reach out to the service directly.”
The same legislation that Carr cites in the notice allegedly giving him the power to change ratings makes it clear that the FCC he has no authority to change ratings.
In a public comment 44 organizations joined together to point this out in the first paragraph:
“The FCC does not have the legal authority to mandate changes to the existing ratings system or the composition of the TVOMB as suggested by the Notice.
This censorship plain and simple.
This isn’t the first time Carr has been accused of censorship. Carr has claimed broadcasters air “hoaxes” and “news distortions” that also happen to be unfavorable to President Trump. Carr has suggested the licenses of such broadcasters won’t be renewed.
