Emmerdale star confirms chaotic future for Kammy and Belle
Life is never quiet if you’re seeing a Dingle (Picture: ITV)
This week’s episodes of Emmerdale will see us finally learn a bit more about Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah), but the discovery of a darker side to the young man who always has a smile on his face may come at a price for his new girlfriend.
Kammy rocked up to the village last year. After a brief romance with Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), focus for Kammy shifted to his friendship with Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson).
Kammy hasn’t been around for long, but he’s slotted himself nicely into the community and is hugely loved by many. Plenty love his charm, his constant cheerfulness…while Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) just likes that he’s relatively good at fixing cars.
That’s a high compliment from him, don’t worry.
The possibility of Kammy keeping secrets from his pals in the village became a focus during last week’s episodes. Amid his investigation into who was setting barns on fire at the Sugden Farm, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) witnessed Kammy rocking up late to work at the garage.
He was also incredibly tired and even had his shirt on backwards. Witnessing this made Aaron wonder if Kammy wasn’t throwing everything into his job at the garage anymore because he’s been otherwise occupied.

This week, a curious Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) will probe her boyfriend about his family by asking about Eid. When she sees the idea makes Kammy uncomfortable, Belle wonders if she’s overstepped.
Tensions remain high at the garage as Belle arrives and once again asks about Kammy’s relatives, but he snaps and shuts the idea down. The fact that she’s never seen this side to her boyfriend leaves Belle alarmed, but even more determined to find out what he’s hiding.
She finds herself wanting to check Kammy’s phone, but doesn’t go this far as her disgust at almost invading his privacy stops her.
As Belle speaks to Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) about her concerns, Kammy’s secret is revealed to us, as it’s confirmed that he’s homeless and has been sleeping in one of the barns on Robert’s land.

With no proper roof over his head, you’d be forgiven for wondering why Kammy just doesn’t tell someone about his situation. Actor Shebz Miah has revealed that it sadly isn’t as simple as Kammy reaching out, as his character has experienced a great deal of trauma in his life that means he ‘would rather cry behind closed doors and never show it.’
‘I think Kammy has got a lot of pride, and I think due to the trauma that he’s had, showing signs of weakness isn’t a thing for him. I think he’s had a lot of hardship in his life, where he doesn’t want to be seen as that’, he said.
Shebz also shared that Kammy is reluctant to tell anyone about his situation because he ‘doesn’t want to be seen as an outcast’.
‘I think it’s that status thing as well. He will overcompensate just to be on the same level. And that could be down to numerous things, things that we’ve not even touched upon yet in Emmerdale. But, the most obvious being he is a South Asian kid in the middle of this white English farm. There’s automatically an imbalance, and therefore, Kammy doesn’t want his obstacles or anything to put him behind.

‘He wants to be seen and accepted equally as everyone, and he has been so far, but I guess that’s his thinking. He doesn’t want to be seen as an outcast and I think he really does value relationships because he’s quite lonely and upset.’
Those relationships are at risk of falling apart when Aaron and Robert find Kammy carrying a petrol can and lighter in the middle of one of their fields. Assuming he’s the firestarter, Robert grabs Kammy by the jacket, but is taken aback to learn that Kammy was actually planning on torching his car.
Kammy then makes a run for it, and is later seen getting taken out of the village in a police car.
‘It’s that thing where he’s obviously really annoyed by it because of the situation he’s put in. It brings back a lot of trauma for him, mixed with shame and anger’, Shebz shared, describing how Kammy feels when he’s accused of being the arsonist.

‘He’s not had an easy ride, and all of this is bringing back a lot of unpleasant memories for him. And it’s just one of those things where, because he’s got no one, he’s got no leg to stand on. And I think it’s that right person, wrong time thing, and he sort of accepts it, but it’s just one voice against the rest of the village, and there’s nothing you can do about that, unfortunately.
‘But I also imagine it’s not the first time that Kammy has been in a position like that. He has been against the majority quite often before.’
Even though Kammy clashes with Belle this week in his attempt at trying to stop her from discovering what he’s going through, there will come a point where he opens up to her, as Shebz confirmed.
‘There does come that turning point, and I think it is because he’s backed into a corner’, he said.
Shebz describes Kammy and Belle as ‘chaotic yet innocent’ (Picture: ITV)
‘I think he also does see the innocence, and he does really, really like Belle. I think the connection he’s had with her so far is really genuine, and he’s not really had anyone care for him sincerely like that.
‘And I think because of that, he just puts his hand up and he waves the white flag and confesses everything, which we’ll see later on. It is traumatic for him, because we do talk about things that have happened previously. However, he’s doing it because deep down, he genuinely has submitted to Belle and he just wants to address it now.’
The actor told us that Kammy will slowly get back on his feet in the near future and it’s all thanks to Belle and her family, who decide to take Kammy in and make him an honorary Dingle.
This of course means the next few months for Kammy and Belle are going to be chaotic, but Shebz is very much looking forward to exploring the next chapter of his character’s journey.
Kammy also has strong friendships with Lewis and Vinny (Picture: ITV)
‘I remember when I first joined, like midway through the year I had been there, everyone was like, “Oh, Kammy is such a classic Dingle,” and I’m like, “What does that even mean?” I now see it’, he smiled.
‘He’s a scally. He’s someone who does mean well; however, he is also getting up to mischief. He’s not bothered about whatever. And I think finally, to have that status, it’s a piece of identity, isn’t it?’.
Shebz is also incredibly proud of the fact he’s now part of one of soapland’s most iconic families.

‘I never, ever imagined a brown kid like me would be part of the Dingles. So, I think to be in that chaotic mix is iconic. I think it’s going to be amazing for the fans to see.
‘The most amazing part is, maybe 10 years ago, back when I was a kid watching the classic Emmerdale scenes that you’d see, you almost wanted to be a part of that, or you almost wanted that experience in your own household as well.’
He added: ‘But now, not only am I a part of it, but I am sat there and people in Bradford or wherever will be watching it. Kids who look like me will think the exact same thing, thinking, “What the f*** is going on here?” They’ll get to see this chaotic kid in the middle of people who aren’t his family by blood, but, you know, he’s there.
‘It’s a beautiful feeling to be part of it. And if I had to pick out of all the families on Emmerdale, it would 100% be the Dingles.’
