Big day in Tipperary soccer fixtures
A couple of big games are happening in the world of soccer in Tipperary today.
In the North of the county, the NT&DL Premier Division playoff final is taking place as BT Harps and Moneygall meet in Borrsokane at 6.30pm.
Speaking on last night’s Across The Line, soccer analyst Gary Culbert says history awaits tonight’s winners:
“You have two teams who have never won the NT&DL Premier Division in their history.
“Blackcastle United would have won it back in 2003 but BT Harps was formed in 2006 but neither team, Moneygall or BT Harps has won it in their history.”
Meanwhile, St. Michael’s are in FAI Junior Cup action this evening.
The Tipperary Town side are the last team from the Premier county left in the competition and they host Limerick’s Fairview Rangers in Cooke Park at 6pm in their 5th round tie.
The game comes just three days after St. Michael’s played the TSDL Premier League title decider where they drew against Peake Villa on Wednesday night, which saw the Saints drive for three league titles in a row end.
Also speaking on Across The Line, soccer analyst Barry Ryan feels the quick turnaround will hamper St. Michael’s chances:
“St. Michael’s will be honest, they’ll turn up, put their best foot forward like they always do on the big days but I think they have been hampered by the fixtures and the injuries, it’s just too hard on the body.
“Fairview Rangers are one of the top sides in the country and people will probably feel that whoever beats Fairview will win the FAI, tehy are going to be right there, probably themselves and Villa of Waterford so I just feel for the weekend that the scheduling has taken away any real chance of St. Michael’s progressing in the FAI Junior Cup.”
