It's the first time we've had our hands on the latest all-electric GLC, but does it have what it takes to go head-to-head with alternatives like the BMW iX3? Let's take a closer look... In terms of the design, there’s no denying this new GLC has real presence on the road. The front end is dominated by a huge illuminated grille, while the creases on the bonnet and vents within the bumper really add to the look & feel of the car. We have our hands on the range-topping edition here, which means black surrounds on the grille, flanked by Mercedes’s new headlights with the 3-pointed star included. Along the side, the black surrounds continue around the windows, while at the back, the taillights featuring the 3-pointed star have been added, and the widened wheel arches are much more apparent from the rear. But of course, being electric, there are no exhaust tips - instead, all you'll find is a fake diffuser! The interior of the car is dominated by the 39-inch Hyperscreen, which stretches along the length of the dash. It comes with the latest Mercedes infotainment system, which is responsive and easy to use, although annoyingly, the climate controls are still managed within the screen! Most surfaces you touch around the dash and centre console are made of soft-touch materials, but lean down a bit too far, and there’s far too much scratchy, cheap plastic to be found! Overall, though, storage is good, both in the centre console and in the door bins. The Mercedes GLC Electric comes with a 94kWh battery, which is good for a claimed range of 393 miles. All versions of the GLC come with dual motors, four wheel drive, and 489bhp. It can also accelerate to 60mph in 4.3 seconds. The GLC Electric starts from £60,350, rising to £73,350 for the range-topping Premier Edition - and that’s before adding options! So is it worth it? And is it a better choice than the iX3?
