Criminal damage incident on Barnham Cross Common in Thetford

It happened to the fence line bordering the grazing area on Barnham Cross Common in Thetford, sometime over the weekend of May 9. Mixed herds of cattle and sheep that currently live on the common are now at risk of escaping, as well as being attacked by other animals that can get in. It follows an incident when a sheep died after it was "violently mauled by a dog" on the common in April. The attack marked the 11th attack on livestock in the area. The incident has been reported to Breckland Police (Image: Thetford Town Council) A spokesman for Thetford Town Council said: "Several sections of fencing wire were deliberately cut, compromising the security of the area and creating a risk of livestock escaping. "Incidents such as this pose not only a risk to the welfare of the animals but also to the public due to the proximity of the main road." The council added that the damage was reported on May 9, and the team attended the site and made it safe. The affected fence line will now require repair and further monitoring, and the incident has been reported to Breckland Police.
