Sony and Canon Announce Major New Pro Models!
Sony A7R VI
The latest arrival in the Sony stable looks to bring A1-style speed to the A7R line-up, with the new A7R VI coming in as the successor to the highly rated A7R V. Boasting at its heart a formidable 66.8MP Exmor RS sensor – the highest resolution in the Alpha line-up – BIONZ XR2 processor and an integrated AI processing unit, the new camera is designed to be lightning fast.
The new sensor also supports a native ISO range up to 32,000, extendable to 102,400, providing excellent low light capability. Sony has also added two action-oriented modes new to the R series: Pre-Capture, which begins buffering at 30 fps on a half-press of the shutter (configurable from 0.03 to 1.0 second), and Speed Boost, which lets users instantly jump to a faster frame rate via a custom button.
The first stacked sensor in the series increases readout speed while maintaining resolution, enabling a top 30fps blackout-free shooting speed and more stable autofocus tracking. Meanwhile a dual-gain system extends the dynamic range to 16 stops, preserving highlight and shadow detail in high contrast scenes. Real time Recognition AF+ improves subject detection, maintaining focus on smaller subjects, and recovering quickly when they pass behind obstacles.
Further modifications over its predecessor include a revised grip, illuminated controls, a 9.44M-dot EVF that’s three times brighter than on the A7R V and an interface that rotates automatically for vertical use. Dual USB-C ports also separate data transfer from power delivery, so that it’s possible for the camera to stay charged when transferring files during tethered shooting.
Five-axis in-body stabilisation is included to provide up to 8.5 stops of correction at the centre of the frame, with up to seven stops towards the edges. In addition, compensation for pitch, yaw and rotational movement allows slower shutter speeds to be employed without introducing motion blur.
