Manchester United, in particular, need at least one player in central midfield to replace the departing Casemiro. But the belief is that they could target two or three in the role, with the likes of Manuel Ugarte expected to move on as well. Manchester City are in less need than their city rivals. They already have Rodri, Nico Gonzalez, Tijjani Reijnders, Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva who can play centrally. Silva is leaving at the end of his contract though and Kovacic is likely to depart too. It also remains to be seen what happens with Rodri. And they won’t find any Italian competition at the €100m asking price.
