Starmer defies calls to quit as minister resigns
Keir Starmer is fighting his colleagues’ attempts to topple him. The cabinet met on Tuesday morning and loyalists came out afterwards saying they back him to stay.
However, there have been calls from more than 80 Labour MPs for him to quit, a ministerial resignation this morning, and cabinet ministers have privately advised Keir Starmer to consider his position.
But he is refusing to make it easy, daring his opponents to stand up and formally challenge him – something they’ve all avoided so far, fearing the old political adage that those who wield the knife never wear the crown.
