Boil water advisory in Sudbury, Ont., to remain in place until at least Friday
By Thursday morning many grocery stores across Sudbury were already sold out of bottled water. (Kim Garritty/CBC)On Wednesday night, Public Health Sudbury and Districts put a boil water advisory in place for much of Sudbury — including the downtown, New Sudbury, the south end, Minnow Lake and other neighbourhoods — as well as Falconbridge and parts of Garson.Dr. Emily Groot, the associate medical officer for the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts, says test samples showed "total coliform" bacteria that needs to be investigated further. The bacteria are "not generally harmful to health," Groot said, but their presence suggests there could be other issues with the city's water treatment system.
