Dungeon Crawler Carl Stealth Drops First Episode Ahead of Full Release
Dungeon Crawler Carl is the LitRPG hit that just keeps getting better with each new installment. Die-hard fans are eagerly anticipating the drop of the eighth installment of the book series with the days-away release of A Parade of Horribles. However, there are also two other upcoming releases that fans have to look forward to, and one of them has just dropped an early sneak peek.
In addition to the imminent May 12, 2026, release of A Parade of Horribles by Matt Dinniman, most Dungeon Crawler fans are also likely aware that the series is officially being adapted into a live-action TV series that is currently in development at the streaming service Peacock. While we still don’t have a release date for this project, we do have the release date for another exciting Dungeon Crawler Carl release. Even better, ahead of this release, we’ve already gotten an early look at this “first episode.” The highly anticipated Dungeon Crawler Carl, Vol. 1 Graphic Novel by Matt Dinniman (Author, Creator), Aethon Books (Creator), Actus (Creator), and Laurel Pursuit Studios (Illustrator) is set to release on May 19, 2026. This graphic novel takes the critically acclaimed apocalyptic awesomeness of the Dungeon Crawler Carl Webtoon and adapts it into the first-ever graphic novel series, “collecting episodes 1-13 of the WEBTOON edition.” However, ahead of this full release, Vault Comics has already stealth-dropped the first episode of the graphic novel. But the good news doesn’t end there. Even better, this first chapter is available to read for FREE, as it dropped on May 2, 2026, as part of Free Comic Book Day 2026. If you haven’t yet gotten caught up in the mania of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, then this may serve as the perfect jumping-in point before diving into the full-length novels.

Free Comic Book Day 2026 Dungeon Crawler Carl #0
Free Comic Book Day 2026: Dungeon Crawler Carl #0 is now available to read, and thanks to Free Comic Book Day, this first chapter was free. The official synopsis for the special teases: “You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Getting stuck on a sadistic alien game show with her cat.” Confirming that the FCBD special and the graphic novel stay true to the core premise of the Dungeon Crawler Carl novels that have made them a hit among readers. According to Vault Comics, “This FCBD special collects the first episode (and more!) of the WEBTOON series with over 3 Million Reads and 175,000 subscribers.” Hence, if the “free” part of this special wasn’t enough to entice readers, then the promise of “more,” as well as the impressive stats that the Webtoon series racked up, just might be the final bit of enticement that new and old readers need.
Another epic element of this special is the cover art. League of Comic Geeks advertises five different covers, with each one being as unique as it is badass. The main cover for the issue comes from artist Yoshi Yoshitani, while there is also the “Collected Comics & Games Free Comic Book Day Brian Denham Variant,” “Major Payne's Comic Compound Scott Prather Variant,” “Revenge Of Shea Hardacre Variant,” and perhaps the most notable “Vault Comics Nathan Gooden Absolute Batman #1 Homage Variant.”
The latter variant cover recreates the now-iconic Absolute Batman #1 main cover by series artist Nick Dragotta, but instead of an oversized Batman taking center stage, it’s Carl and Princess Donut. Using the same pose, backdrop, and other signature elements, Nathan Gooden recreates the iconic cover with a distinct Dungeon Crawler Carl twist, making this not only an epic tribute to Dragotta’s work but also an applaud-worthy depiction of Carl.
