Popular Freedom Indices rely heavily on anonymous 'experts'
It’s become a common move at this stage, whenever modern Irish democracy or freedoms are called into question, to cite indices and experts claiming it’s never been better, in order to beat down the testimony of people’s eyes and ears.
Those indices are typically produced by EU- and foundation-funded organisations that put a premium on anonymous “expert” analysis that fails to take into account the many ways in which the countries they rate as glowing, such as Ireland, aren’t really glowing at all.
