Ireland to host inaugural disability golf competition during the 2027 Ryder Cup

Ireland is set to host a first-of-its-kind disability golf tournament during the 2027 Ryder Cup in Limerick. Sports Minister Patrick O’Donovan will bring a memo to Cabinet today with details of the inaugural Golf for the Disabled Ryder Cup 2027.As part of the competition's 100th anniversary celebrations, the tournament will take place from September 13-15. It will be held at Ballyneety Golf Club, Limerick, the same venue as the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup.The main event will take place at The Golf Course at Adare Manor, with the three days of competition between Europe and the US kicking off on September 17. The Golf for the Disabled Ryder Cup will cost the Government up to €300,000, with an extra €200,000 coming from a private sponsor.A department spokesperson said it aims for the competition to “create a lasting legacy for disability sport, increase participation in golf and support efforts to bring the sport closer to Paralympic inclusion.” They added: “It positions Ireland as a global leader in inclusive sport, showcasing golf as accessible to all and supporting participation for people with disabilities.”The 2027 event is set to be one of the largest sporting events to ever take place in Ireland. Ryder Cup tickets were made available only to Irish fans two weeks ago, costing €499 each, but sold out in minutes. Over 150,000 people had pre-registered for early access.But last week residents of the village of Adare were sent letters by Ryder Cup Europe offering tickets. It said: "As a gesture of this appreciation we would like to offer you two complimentary tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup, which can be redeemed for any of the days, Tuesday to Sunday.”The letter also acknowledged that there will be some disruption for locals during the preparation phase and during the event itself.
