Wonder Woman’s Perfect DCU Debut Is Finally Possible After DC’s Next Movie

Wonder Woman's perfect DC Universe debut has been made possible thanks to the story Supergirl promises to tell, making the prospect of the iconic DC hero's impending arrival in the franchise feel all the more likely. Given the DC Universe timeline began its big-screen stories with Superman and provided us with a quick glimpse of Batman in Creature Commandos, the concept of the franchise giving us a look at Wonder Woman soon feels very much possible. Though the DCU's Wonder Woman has thus far not been officially cast, the franchise has already set a precedent for having heroes appear before their live-action castings via Batman appearing in animated form in Creature Commandos seemingly well before his own live-action casting takes place. As such, Wonder Woman could theoretically still appear in some capacity any day now in the franchise. With this setup in mind, it's exciting to note that the DC Universe's next upcoming movie tees up a borderline perfect excuse for Wonder Woman to become a part of the franchise's pre-existing storylines, which could work effectively to delve into Diana Prince's backstory and power level from the offset for the character, helping her entrance naturally intertwine with the established universe. Supergirl Sets Up A Near-Perfect Way For Wonder Woman To Make Her Official DCU Debut Whether Wonder Woman appears in the near future for the DCU or later down the line, the franchise's next film - Supergirl - sets up a perfect way to continue the DC Universe's current trend of ensuring any new superheroes introduced into its world are connected to pre-established heroes and storylines. Supergirl centers on its titular hero's galactic adventures and the growth it brings her along the way - with the trailers showing it clearly draws from the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic plotline closely - but what we've seen of the movie in teasers and previews thus far also shows that Superman is still worried about the time Kara is spending away from Earth, and that she won't find "her people" on the planet since she's off-world so much. With this in mind, it would make a lot of sense for Supergirl's story and bond with Superman to lead into Wonder Woman first appearing in the DCU via Clark attempting to have Diana and Kara interact so that Supergirl can bond with more people he thinks are like her, since Wonder Woman also left her birthplace behind to live among humans, albeit through very different circumstances. Since the DCU focuses on a universe wherein Batman and Superman have been superheroes for years in the present day - and wherein Wonder Woman villains like Circe are present already - it stands to reason that Wonder Woman is both also an active hero, and has an established dynamic with her fellow vigilantes, which could well see Superman attempt to call on her for help with the one issue he may see he can't solve solo himself. Having Wonder Woman Interact With The DCU's Heroes Could Make A Franchise Dream Come True Early On Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg in Zack Snyder's Justice Leaguevia MovieStillsDB While Wonder Woman was a core part of the DCEU, the relative brevity of the franchise's crossover time meant we didn't get to see as much of Diana interacting with the rest of DC's cast of characters as much as a more extended timeline might have allowed. As such, it makes all the more sense to have Wonder Woman's DCU debut immediately lean into her appearing in a universe wherein many heroes are operating and have pre-established bonds to draw upon. If the DCU is able to introduce Wonder Woman within the next few years and continue at a fair pace with her appearance and story - which seems particularly possible since we know the DCU is also set to feature an assortment of tie-in shows that are also part of this world - then we could well get a long-term live-action Wonder Woman story in an interconnected universe, allowing the franchise to fully explore various different sides of the character. Given many of Wonder Woman's most engaging comic moments come from seeing her interact with the rest of DC's weird and wonderful world - and from the unique dynamics that only the Princess of Themyscira could develop with her allies and enemies - this certainly would set up a promising future for the DC Universe, especially if Supergirl is used to subtly set up more building blocks from this early on.
