Trump cancels peace talks with Iran as peace negotiators prepared to board flight
US President Donald Trump appears to have cancelled peace talks scheduled to take place in Pakistan to try to broker a peace deal with Iran.
US representatives Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were due to travel to the Middle East today, but a short time ago, Fox News reported that President Trump had cancelled the negotiations.
Speaking just 24 hours ago, the White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said ‘We hope that positive developments will come from this meeting’.

Now, all that hope has been quashed, as it appears the President has called a halt to negotiations before they even began.
It’s being reported that as Jared Kushner and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff were about to board the plane for the long flight to Pakistan, Donald Trump told the Fox News White House correspondent – I’ve told my people, a little while ago, they were getting ready to leave, and I said, ‘Nope, you’re not going to make an 18-hour flight to go there.’
‘We have all the cards; they can call us any time they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18-hour flights to sit around and talk about nothing.’
Just a few moments ago the President posted on his own Truth Social page on X (Twitter) saying he had pulled his people out of the peace talks because of confusion in Iran over who is in charge.
