Dyson Hushjet HJ10 Compact Purifier review: effective air purification in a quieter and smaller package
Dyson has been a forerunner in air purification for the home for many years, but the tech pioneer’s latest offering is something of a reinvention of this space.Instead of using its acclaimed Air Multiplier technology which pushes air through a large circular or oval ring in one of its tower-style purifiers, the HushJet features a star-shaped nozzle that projects a focused vertical jet of air instead. The company said this new system increases air velocity while reducing turbulence and noise, hence the ‘Hush’ in the machine’s moniker, and this means we get faster purification from a smaller machine.READ MORE: Chipolo and Secrid launch trackable Miniwallet with wirelessly rechargeable battery lasting a yearREAD MORE: Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool Fan is firm’s first portable handheld cooling machine arriving for summerDyson Hushjet HJ10 in everyday useDyson Hushjet HJ10 is designed to cater for rooms up to 100m2 and is compact enough to sit on a desktop although I’ve been testing mine placed on the floor where it looks more discrete. It has sensors that activate the fan as soon as any pollutants are detected. There are invisible pollutants and respiratory system irritants in everyone's home but the Hushjet will soon let you know about them and deal with the problem. The small and robustly made cylindrical body weighs 3.17kg, measures 47cm high and 23cm wide and draws in your room’s dirty air and can, according to Dyson, purify up to 70 litres of air every second. The fully sealed housing ensures captured pollutants cannot sneak back into your surroundings.HushJet’s filtration system uses an outer 360-degree electrostatic HEPA filter and a smaller, inner, 360-degree cylindrical activated carbon filter to remove 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns from indoor air. The filter should last five years before it needs replacing, according to Dyson. The device features a distinctive jet-engine-inspired, semi-transparent and upward-facing outlet nozzle that the company said channels purified air in a smooth and controlled stream. You can customise the HushJet HJ10's settings to both the noise level and purification strength, but Auto mode works well as the company's Autoreact tech tweaks airflow based on the amount of pollutants sensed every few seconds. Air pollutants in the room are captured from every angle, incidentally, not just through the top. Even at the machine’s higher speeds, the air purifier’s maximum noise levels are around the low 60dB range (based on readings from Apple’s Noise app).A small LED display on the front provides detailed real-time information on your air quality and the unit’s operating status, and you can control it using the handy MyDyson app or the unit’s physical controls. There is support for smart home voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant too.Dyson Hushjet HJ10 verdictDyson Hushjet’s quiet operation is blissful. It would be ideal for overnight use in a small child’s bedroom. But you can use this compact and efficient machine in any room in the house. You will notice fresher air and its effects on odours and air quality quickly, especially when using it in the kitchen. I love the way you can track the purifying tech in operation through the real-time insights in the app. And it’s great that the filters should last for five years as this significantly reduces long-term costs normally incurred with air purifiers.Dyson Hushjet HJ10 pricing and availabilityDyson Hushjet H10 costs €399 from dyson.ieWant to see more of the stories you love from the Irish Mirror?
