Family doctor waitlist drops by more than 1,200 in March: NS Health
The number of Nova Scotians looking for a family doctor has gone down.
Nova Scotia Health released new data on Wednesday, which shows there are 61,947 Nova Scotians on the Need a Family Practice Registry, as of April 1.
This is a drop from last month’s numbers, when there were 63,221 Nova Scotians on the registry. NSH said the decrease is due to registrations, attachments to family doctors or nurse practitioners, and other updates over time.
The percentage of the population on the registry now stands at 7.3 per cent.
Its next update will be in early May.
This comes just after the province opened the Antigonish Community Health Clinic, which can support 10,000 patients with 30 health care professionals.
Existing clinic and doctors are relocating to the new centre that has 36 rooms, including six charting stations, three collaborative team rooms, three patient education rooms, offices and a shared waiting room.
“New and modern facilities help us to recruit and retain providers, and this clinic will help support the current and future healthcare needs of Antigonish and the broader community,” Michelle Thompson, Minister of Health and Wellness, said in the release.
