MATT TREACY: Mountjoy Prison on Census night, 1926
I was not one of the many thousands who stayed up last Friday night to catch a first glimpse of the 1926 Census which was uploaded by the National Archives at midnight, but I do confess to having been trawling through it at first light.
It is a treasure trove for any person interested in their own family history, local history, demographics and the lives of well-known people who are cast in a more prosaic light when revealed on an official form which contains the ordinary details of their day-to-day existence.
