Emmerdale star suggests Moira may kill again amid shotgun showdown
Moira takes action (Picture: ITV)
Framed for murder and people trafficking, Emmerdale’s Moira Dingle is about to confront the man responsible – with a loaded shotgun. Will she pull the trigger?
After Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) plotted to put Moira behind bars so he could add Butler’s Farm to the Tate Empire, new evidence came to light thanks to Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards that she had been framed.Celebrations abounded when Moira was released, and nobody was more delighted than her husband Cain Dingle – although you can’t tell by his face.
But Moira returned to a very a different Butlers’ Farm.
It was now owned by Joe, who had kicked out her family and cut down her daughter Holly’s memorial tree out of sheer spite. He’d even moved in Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) to farm the land for him. Moira was devastated to lose the business she’d put so much blood, sweat and tears into. However, she didn’t truly know who was responsible… until now.
What Moira didn’t know is that Robert made a deal with the devil andplanted some incriminating ID cards in her home at the behest of Joe Tate, so she would rot in prison and the trust fund baby of Home Farm could get Butler’s in his clutches – with a Sugden back at the helm.

In upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, Moira discovers Robert’s betrayal with potentially fatal consequences. Actors Natalie J Robb and Jeff Hordley, who play Moira and Cain, spilled the tea…
‘[Moira’s] fuming.’ admits Natalie. ‘She’s really hurt actually, because she doesn’t expect that of him. She actually thought he’d turned a corner and changed as a person.’
It was only a matter of time before Moira uncovered the truth. Even though Cain, Sam (James Hooton) and Lydia (Karen Blick) founded Dingle Farm in her honour at Wishing Well Cottage, she cannot stay away from Butler’s and keeps dropping in on Robert with the excuse of showing him the ropes, something that Cain is not thrilled about.
‘He’s not happy about it though, that she keeps disappearing to Robert’s.’ Jeff Hordley reveals. ‘He has no idea obviously why’.
When she stops by with some lunch, Moira starts to smell a rat when Robert gives her some pictures Holly drew which he found in the attic.A casual comment gives him away, so when Moira questions how he knows so much, Robert is forced to reveal that he was the one who planted the documents. Natalie J Robb sums up Moira’s reaction perfectly.
‘She goes ballstic’.

Apoplectic, Moira charges back to Wishing Well to tell Cain, only to find him in the middle of a domestic with Sam. So in classic Moira Barton form, she gets her shotgun and decides to pay Joe Tate a visit…

‘Literally at that point, she’s going round there to kill him.’ Natalie insists. ‘She has the shotgun, she makes him sit down and try to confess. He’s trying to play dumb but she knows it’s down to him.’
Surely Moira’s not going to kill Joe… is she?

She’s capable. After all, Moira’s already got blood on her hands.Fans may remember that Moira pushed Emma Barton (Gillain Kearney) off a bridge to her death, after the unstable villain goaded her by suggesting that she was responsible for Holly’s death from a drug overdose.
But that was then. The most badass farmer in the Dales is fresh out of prison after weeks of separation from Cain and her family. Is she really prepared to sacrifice her freedom once more for the likes of Joe Tate?
‘I don’t think she cares at that point. In that split second, she’s so angry because Cain’s had to deal with the cancer on his own. Joe kept her away from her children and she thinks: ‘Really? Are you really that horrible and that cruel? Are you really that greedy?’
‘It’s all about power. It’s a bit like the world we’re living in now, all about power and it’s not actually about being humane to people. And at that point, she’s definitely going there to kill him.’
How does Joe get out of this one? Assuming he weasels his way out of Moira’s crosshairs, she’ll still be gunning for him in more ways than one. What is Moira’s plan for Joe? Natalie drops a few hints…
‘I think he’s going to be under her radar, it might just be quietly. He might try to worm her round. But we don’t know how that’s going to pan out with the writing and which route they’re going to go. But when I was filming the scenes, it was pretty certain that she was going to get him back in some way or another. And she does, she does team up with people to get him to suffer in a similar way, but that would be by him losing everything, so that he has no power. So we’ll see.’

Why doesn’t Moira tell Cain what Robert and Joe did? Surely the Deadliest Dingle would leap at the chance to aid his wife in her quest for revenge. Natalie explains Moira’s decision.
‘She thinks if Cain finds out, he’s going to go ballistic and do something stupid. She’s just got out of prison, the last thing she wants is for him to go to prison. But that’s going to eat him up because he knows what she’s been doing for Robert as well. And the fact that he’s in Moira’s farm, it’s just a hard pill to swallow. But she’s trying to prevent something terrible happening and protect the marriage as well, because they’re dealing with something that’s a lot bigger than money.’
Can’t say we blame her. Cain’s life has been turned upside down by a shock prostate cancer diagnosis, which he has struggled with in silence while Moira was in prison. It’s shown viewers a more vulnerable side to Cain, faced with his own mortality, who struggled to face off against rivals like Joe Tate while trying to prioritise his health.

Jeff Hordley shares the behind-the-scenes process about portraying a new side to this classic Emmerdale character.
‘It’s been a challenge’. Jeff admits ‘A brilliant challenge. But the one thing that’s so interesting to explore… because the guy is really having to face something that he’s never faced before, so therefore his guard’s down on a lot of things. He’s unknowingly tapping into emotions that I don’t think he knew he had.’

‘I think this is why they probably chose the character for this storyline. He’s the classic man who doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t tell people. So by having this illness, this is what we’re exploring and finding out with the character, so it’s really interesting.’

Cain’s journey is not untypical. Almost 3.5 million people are living with cancer in the UK. That’s why Emmerdale partnered with Macmillan Cancer Research to accurately and emotionally portray how lonely a cancer diagnosis can feel, and how challenging it can feel to talk to family or friends. Jeff Hordley explains the intent behind Emmerdale’s biggest issue story of 2026.
‘I think it’s about us seeing through someone going through the journey of waiting, the “what ifs?” over the side effects of surgery, and the things that men have to go through in these situations. And getting yourself tested. I’m 56 and I’ve been for a PSA test already because of this storyline. There’s other people in the company of a similar age to me who’ve gone, ‘I’m going to the doctors to get a PSA test’.
‘That’s what we want, really. If this can get 50 people, 10 people, 5 people to go to the doctors and find out. Because it’s an illness where you don’t know and sometimes it’s symptom free, then that will be a job well done.’
