'Gone but never forgotten' - Tributes flow for teenager killed in tragic collision
Tributes have flooded in following the tragic death of a teenager in a road traffic collision last week.Conor Coleman was struck by a vehicle in Little Island last Friday and was rushed to Cork University Hospital, where he was placed in intensive care. Sadly, despite the best efforts of doctors at CUH, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.In a notice posted to RIP.ie, the Coleman family thanked the medical staff who worked to save their son's life and commended the organ transplant team for their compassion during such a difficult time, reports Cork Beo.They said: "The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff in the Intensive Care Unit at the Cork University Hospital and the compassionate and respectful Organ Transplant team."Conor is survived by his brother John, his parents, Barry and Trish, his grandparents and a wide circle of family and friends. The 19-year-old passed away surrounded by members of his loving family on Saturday.Expressions of condolences to Conor's family and tributes have flowed since his death, with one describing him as 'a fine young man'.One person said: "Sincere and heartfelt sympathy to you all. His gift of life-saving organs will stay with you. A fine young man gone but never forgotten."Another added: "Such a lovely young man taken so suddenly and way too young. You must be commended for your bravery with organ donation at such a tragic time. May you be rewarded with the love, compassion, and kindness you deserve from family, friends, and work colleagues."A third said: "Trish, Barry and John, please accept our deepest condolences on the tragic loss of your precious son Conor."An unimaginable void in your family at his passing, but Conor's wonderful legacy will live on with his wonderful gift of organ donation. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time."The reposing will take place at the Temple Hill Funeral Home in Cork at 6 pm on Tuesday, followed by a requiem mass at the Church of Our Lady and St. John, Carrigaline the following day. The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers to Cork University Hospital.Investigations into the tragic collision are still ongoing, and over the weekend, Gardaí issued an appeal, asking any witnesses or road users who may have footage to come forward.A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward."Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 11:00pm and midnight on Friday 17th April 2026, are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí."Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.Want to see more of the stories you love from Dublin Live?
