Lanzarote tourists 'won't return' to island as unexpected issue 'puts them off'
Holidaymakers in the Canary Islands have been voicing concerns of late, as certain aspects of the popular destination appear to be catching visitors off guard. For several weeks, tourists have been reporting difficulties in Tenerife, but now Lanzarote has also found itself in the spotlight. Videos circulating online show people sharing their views on why they believe the beloved holiday hotspot is "done", citing an unexpected issue. One clip, posted on TikTok by Biggie Bills, sparked considerable debate, with many users agreeing that an unforeseen factor is "putting them off" returning, as they made some rather candid travel confessions about the Canary Islands. This follows tourists highlighting a separate concern earlier this month, when holidaymakers in Tenerife flagged yet another problem just weeks ago. Biggie said: "This is why people are done with Lanzarote. The wind is constant. Face full of sand with your drink, but not everyone agrees. "Some areas are calm. Dealbreaker or not?" The video prompted a significant response, attracting hundreds of comments. Viewers appear to hold strong opinions about the destination, with some declaring they "won't go back". One person remarked: "It's like being stranded on the moon, but with a very small town on there, with hardly anything to do." Another commented: "Gone too expensive." A third wrote: "Too expensive now, the airport is a joke, the wind was insane in Costa Teguise when I was last there, and I feel the place is feeling run down." Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Weather unpredictable. After years of coming, we won't be returning after three holidays of s*** weather." Another also noted: "Went last week. Between the new system at the airport, terrible weather [and] prices are so high. Puts me off going back." Not everyone was in agreement, however, as other holidaymakers confessed they adore visiting the destination. One wrote: "I was there last year. The best Canary Island. Will be going back." Another remarked: "Done? We're getting busier by the year, as are all of our businesses." A third added: "Best place ever. Clean, friendly and stunning. Going back in July. Can't wait." One further visitor stated: "If you don't like it, don't go. Lanzarote is our favourite holiday destination. The wind does not put us off." What people need to know Lanzarote is widely regarded as an exceptionally popular year-round holiday destination, particularly amongst Europeans in search of warm weather. It ranks amongst the top Canary Islands, celebrated for its distinctive volcanic scenery, sandy beaches and artistic, stylish atmosphere. That said, the island is also renowned for being quite blustery, something that has been well documented over the years. Lanzarote is broadly considered a very windy island, with an almost constant breeze sweeping across it. Trade winds are a regular occurrence, making it a favourite spot for water sports enthusiasts. Typically, the winds are at their strongest between late May and early September, and this appears to be deterring some visitors of late. In terms of cost, the destination is broadly regarded as affordable compared to the UK and Northern Europe, though prices have climbed in recent times. While it still represents good value for money, visitors should be prepared for higher prices for dining out and accommodation than before 2020. Areas such as Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen in particular have been noted as becoming increasingly pricey.
