The Benefits (And Many Dangers) of Digital ID
Government-issued digital identity systems are, fundamentally, a very good idea.
So much of our lives revolve around proving who we are. When we conduct a banking transaction, we need to prove we are authorised to transact with the account we are using. When we are doing our taxes, we need to prove that we are the person we say we are. When we are looking to buy a home, take out a loan, sign a job contract — it all requires us to hand over evidence proving we are the person scribbling our name on the dotted line.
