Magyar vows new era for Hungary after election victory
An historic election result has changed the face of Budapest’s parliament building and challenged some big assumptions about European politics.
Péter Magyar told supporters “I’m not here to get rich and I’m not here to rule forever”, setting a new tone for Hungarian politics after his landslide election win – ousting Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power.
Magyar said he would no longer oppose the EU’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine and described Russia as a “security risk” to both Hungary and Europe.
