ChatGPT Overload? 54% of Americans Are Tired of Hearing About AI
Artificial intelligence might be all the rage in the tech industry, but a majority of Americans are hitting a wall of AI fatigue, according to a new poll.Of the 2,000 US adults surveyed by Talker Research, 54% are tired of hearing about AI. The survey, conducted last month, also found that 46% of respondents hear about AI so much that they described it as being “everywhere—it feels like I can never escape it."It’s not a great sign for the tech industry as major companies continue to pour billions into new data center construction and AI software development. As a side effect, the AI scramble has worsened a memory shortage, sparking concerns about the environmental toll and job losses for human workers. (A separate survey recently found 30% of US adults worry that their jobs will become obsolete due to AI.)Still, Talker Research noted: “Despite its ever-growing omnipresence, AI is still seen positively by 40% of the population; compared to 30% who see it negatively and 30% who feel neutral about it.” The poll also found that 69% of adult Americans have used AI at some point; 16% use it daily, 21% use it a few times per week, 12% use it a few times per month, while 20% use it “rarely.”Although Talker says this suggests AI has reached the mainstream, it shows that only a narrow segment of the population uses the technology daily. The same poll found that only 30% believe AI has completely lived up to its expectations. A larger subset at 48% “believe AI has only partially lived up to the capabilities they were told the technology could handle,” although some of the respondents left open the door that AI might live up to the hype in the future.
