TikTok Shop prepares for entry into Poland and the Benelux

TikTok Shop is preparing to launch in Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium. This is evident from job listings for its “strategic readiness team” and for customer solutions managers who are fluent in Polish or Dutch. Seller environments have already been set up, but they are not yet live. TikTok Shop is one of the fastest-growing ecommerce platforms in the world. TikTok owner ByteDance introduced its shopping arm in 2021, first in Indonesia and then in the United Kingdom. This was followed by European launches in Spain and Ireland, and a large-scale rollout in Germany, France and Italy last spring. As a result, TikTok Shop is currently active in six European markets, including the five largest ecommerce markets in Europe. Expansion list It was already clear that ByteDance sees opportunities for TikTok Shop in smaller European markets as well. Job listings now reveal more clearly which countries are at the top of the expansion list. They refer to an expansion of the strategic readiness team, “that plays a critical role in ensuring that TikTok Shop’s fast-growing commerce business can expand responsibly and sustainably across Europe”. ‘Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the Nordics’ The assignment is to conduct comprehensive policy and market research on the ecommerce and digital economy sectors across Europe, “with a focus on Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Nordic countries”. Strategic ecommerce merchants TikTok Shop is also looking for customer solutions managers for several markets. These roles are meant to drive the integration and onboarding of strategic ecommerce merchants, by acting as a trusted technical advisor and solutions expert. One of the requirements is that candidates be fluent in Spanish, Dutch, or Polish, “to communicate effectively with local stakeholders across the Spanish, Dutch, or Polish markets”. This also points to the introduction of TikTok Shop in the Netherlands and Poland, while TikTok Shop has already been active in Spain for some time. TikTok has created references to seller account pages Finally, it appears that TikTok has already created references to seller account pages for the Dutch (see screenshot), Polish and Belgian markets. The company directs users to these pages, but they are not yet live. That is unlikely to take much longer. Social commerce in Europe For a long time, the question was whether European consumers were ready for social commerce, as seen in Asia. ByteDance itself seemed to have similar doubts, given the long gap between the market launch in the United Kingdom and those in continental Europe. British consumers have since overcome their hesitation, as many shoppers now make higher-value purchases on the platform. In Germany, TikTok Shop has become part of the ecommerce landscape more quickly: within a year of launch, 15 percent of German consumers are already shopping on the platform.
