The up and coming holiday destination that is Europe's answer to the Maldives

The white sand beaches and azure seas of the Maldives are a huge draw for holidaymakers - if they have the budget that is. But according to a seasoned flight attendent from Newcastle, there is a more affordable European destination that mimics it perfectly.Adam Hodge, who has been part of Wizz Air cabin crew for eight years, says one of his favourite travel destinations is a lesser-known location which has similarities to the luxurious island resort of the Maldives which is so well known for its beautiful coastline and tropical sea life. And Adam's European pick is just three hours' flight from London, compared to the long-haul trip of around eight hours for the former.Adam, who is from Newcastle but based at Luton Airport, revealed that Albania, with its stretches of beautiful beaches and turquoise sea, resembles the Maldives. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, the 35-year-old said: "Albania has similarities to the Maldives, especially with its beachy vibes, lovely sun loungers and its aquamarine waters."If you want to do a city break, it's brilliant, or if you want to do a beach getaway along the coast, and towards the top, you have the European destination alternative to the Maldives." His airline - which flies to Albania four times a day from Luton - also offers flights to its capital from just £19.99, making it a far more affordable option too.The Albanian coastline along the Adriatic and Ionian seas has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Albanian Riviera of the south. Its own clear turquoise waters and pristine white beaches are said to be among the most beautiful in Europe. Its Ksamil Islands are described as a highlight, along with Dhërmi and Jale Beach with their beach parties and bar life. Compared to the south coast, the northern stretch is a quieter but similarly beautiful alternative.Adam has taken the opportunity to explore less crowded holiday spots in his job, with Wizz Air flying more than 750 routes across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, reports The Mirror. He said: "Albania is definitely one of my favourite destinations and I'd say that it's one to watch out for - plus it's good to try somewhere lesser-known."It's got everything which is great and it's very good value for money. Some of the destinations we fly to are not using the euro currency so actually you do get a little bit more value for money with the destinations out of the euro currency as well, when it comes to eating out, drinks and destination activity trips."Among his recommendations in Albania is the "very up-and-coming" Tiranë, also known as Tirana, which has both city and coast attractions. Albania is one of Europe's most budget-friendly destinations too, in terms of accommodation, dining and transport while spring or autumn are said to be good times to visit for those looking for pleasant temperatures with fewer crowd compared to peak summer season. Its cities and hiking landscape can be popular in winter too. While it might be a lesser-known holiday destination now, Adam thinks the country's appeal can only grow.
