YouTube's free Hunger Games livestream is getting me through this crazy week
Just over a year ago, Suzanne Collins released Sunrise on the Reaping -- the latest prequel to The Hunger Games series -- and revived a generation of dystopian fans itching for more stories from Panem. The newest prequel tells the story of Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss's mentor and only other living victor of District 12. The movie adaptation was announced on the same day as the book, and ever since, longstanding readers and movie fans have flocked to streaming services to catch up on the first four original movies and prequel, A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. However, if you're like me, you've noticed that it isn't easy to find The Hunger Games movies for free anymore. As with any major motion picture anticipation, all the movies made before Sunrise on the Reaping are now behind a paywall on almost every streamer. But I've got good news: right now, you can watch them all for free as long as you don't mind a few commercial breaks here and there. Here's where you can watch the first four original Hunger Games movies for free (for a limited time) before Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20, 2026.
Where can I watch The Hunger Games movies for free?
On YouTube for free (for seven days only)
Lionsgate
YouTube is bringing us back to Panem this week with a seven-day marathon streaming all four original films: The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. The movie marathon is being streamed via The Hunger Games' official YouTube channel and is completely free (as long as you don't mind a few ad interruptions here and there).
Unfortunately, the live stream does not include A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Do you need a YouTube subscription to participate? Nope -- all you need to do is go to YouTube and watch it on the platform's default free-with-ads tier. You don't even need to log in to watch. However, the live stream is only available in the US and a few select countries, so you may not be able to watch depending on your region.
Anticipation for Sunrise on the Reaping
Could we be getting a new trailer soon?
So what's the catch? It seems too good to be true, right?
It's no secret that the marketers behind The Hunger Games movies are clever -- particularly on TikTok during the casting announcements for Sunrise on the Reaping. I wouldn't be surprised if this seven-day live stream is meant to butter up the audience for a new official trailer for the franchise's sixth installment. Right now, we only have the teaser trailer above to scratch our Panem itch, which is more than enough already for fan edits to cover the internet -- I'm looking at you, McKenna Grace. It'd be worth it to turn notifications on for the account on your preferred social media platform if you want to be among the first to see more of Haymitch (Joseph Zada), Maysilee (McKenna Grace), Effie (Elle Fanning), and the rest of the star-studded cast bringing Collins' characters to life on the big screen.
