A Limerick woman lost a significant sum of money in a scam.
Gardaí are warning music fans in Limerick to be vigilant when buying concert tickets online following a report of a significant financial loss this week.
A local woman reported being scammed after responding to an advertisement on TikTok for a sold-out concert.
After transferring a large sum of money to the seller, she was immediately blocked on all platforms and no tickets were delivered.
As the summer concert season approaches, Sergeant Aoife Bannon says scammers are becoming increasingly convincing by using altered screenshots of "proof of purchase."
Gardaí are issuing the following advice to avoid falling victim to fraud:
Only use reputable and well-known ticket-selling websites.
Be extremely cautious of private deals on social media apps like TikTok or Instagram.
Remember that if a deal for a sold-out event seems too good to be true, it usually is.
If you believe you have been a victim of an online scam, you are encouraged to report it to your local Garda station immediately.
