Iran eyes temporarily letting Japanese ships transit Hormuz, report says

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reportedly said that Tehran is prepared to temporarily lift its de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to allow Japanese-related ships to pass through.Araghchi said that discussions with Japan on the move had already begun, Kyodo News reported Saturday. The Japan Times could not immediately confirm the report. In a phone call with Araghchi last Tuesday, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi expressed concern over the large number of Japanese-related vessels stopped in the Persian Gulf and requested Iran “take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of all the vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, including those of Japan and other Asian countries,” according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
