World economy in crisis as Israel and Iran strikes cripple Gulf oil production

European gas prices have soared by around 35%, after a series of attacks on crucial energy infrastructure in the Gulf. Qatar said an Iranian strike had caused “substantial damage” to its main gas facility, while there were also attacks on refineries in Kuwait and Israel. The price of Brent Crude also rose to around $112 a barrel. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth insisted their strategy was take sting “on track” without giving any indication of when the war might end, and Iran warned it would act with “zero restraint” if attacks on its infrastructure continued.
