New GAA podcast a timely resource for Leaving Cert students and history lovers
Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns, who participates in the podcasts, said: “The GAA was born during a fascinating period in Irish life, amid a maelstrom of cultural, societal and political revolution. We are indebted to the people who took those first steps more than 140 years ago and to those who ensured we weathered several early storms that could easily have sunk the adventure before it had a chance to get going.
“The study of history teaches us about ourselves, about who we are, where we have come from, and about what has been entrusted to us and what we can take from the past to inform our today and equip us to leave a better tomorrow. The fact that the study of the GAA’s early years is a part of the Leaving Cert curriculum, in its own way, says much about the preeminent role our Association has in Irish life, and I hope that these podcasts will be of benefit to not just secondary school students, but all who enjoy Irish history.”
