Venezuelan fans threw bottles into the air, clapped, banged noisemakers and held at least two chairs aloft. And that was before the game was even over. Javier Sanoja came off the bench to record a key stolen base, and Eugenio Suarez broke a ninth-inning tie with an RBI double that sent Venezuela's fans into hysterics even before the team held on for a 3-2 win over the United States to capture its first WBC title on Tuesday night.
