Dublin-based artist reflects on the simple moments with new solo exhibition
Dublin-based painter Billy Dante has the art world excited as his new solo exhibition is set to open at the MART Gallery in Rathmines this weekend.
Titled ‘Reflection’, Dante told Extra.ie that his work ‘explores inner reflection and wider themes of connectivity with the immediate space around us.’
‘The macro and the micro are depicted as a means of examining the thread that ties us all together and the cyclical nature of events, great and small.’

Dante is an Irish contemporary artist who works primarily with paint. Having begun to develop his passion in his native Cork, he went on to exhibit both internationally and nationally, with notable recent solo exhibitions at The Lane Way Gallery in Cork and St John’s in Listowel in County Kerry.
Interest in his new exhibition is now at fever pitch as his works have gained in popularity in recent years.
Speaking about his process for this collection, Dante says he set out to have his work ‘challenge and equally lean into the natural flow of the self, the surrounding space, and the collective.’

‘In the act of painting, one is tasked with, like in life, navigating light and dark.
‘Reflecting the world around us and how it is experienced – a painting is a reflection of an action placed on a canvas but not passing through it, it sends it back to show a version of who we are.
‘We are but reflections of experience and how will the experience of today reflect?’
Reflection by Billy Dante opens Friday March 20th 1pm -8pm and will remain open on Saturday and Sunday 22nd from 11am – 6pm at The MART Gallery, 190a Rathmines Road Lower, Dublin 6.
The opening reception will take place on Friday evening from 6-8pm.
