A batch of children’s toys have been recalled due to fears they could contain asbestos. The recall has been ordered by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).The products are Out to Impress Sand Art Creations, Creative Candles Craft Set Paw Patrol Sand Art Pictures  and Paw Patrol Bumper Craft Collection. Sold through Tesco, the CCPC says the products present “a risk to health as the sand may contain asbestos”.It says that in line with the position in the UK, where the products were recalled on February 23, it advises parents to stop using the product “immediately”.Officials say if the sand is still packaged, they should place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal it securely, label it clearly and store it in a secure location out of reach of children.Parents should also contact their local authority for advice on collection and disposal.“If the sand has been used, clean sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust," the CCPC said.“Wear gloves and a protective mask. Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths. Seal it securely, label it clearly and store it in a secure location out of reach of children. Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned.  They also suggest that before disposing of the toys, people should contact Tesco for a refund and no receipt is required.Last month, another set of toys were also recalled amid fears they contained asbestos. The CCPC issued a safety notice about HTI Toys Stretcherz Toys on February 27.Officials stated at the time that a range of their products presented a risk to health as the sand inside the product may contain asbestos. The affected products had been sold by a large number of stores, including Aldi, Tesco Ireland, TK Maxx/HomeSense, and Smyths.Just days previously, another asbestos-related Product Safety Information Notice was issued in relation to the My Living World, Worm World Kit. Again, parents were warned that the product “may contain tremolite asbestos”, which is a naturally occurring asbestos that was detected in some samples of the product after laboratory testing.Scientific Laboratory Supplies Limited (SLS Ltd) carried out a recall of this product from several schools it has supplied in Ireland. The CCPC has been in contact with the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), SLS Ltd and the schools regarding this recall.
