Los Lagartos Statue in El Paso, Texas

Los Lagartos is a statue by sculptor Luis Jiminez which stands at the center of San Jacinto Plaza, where live alligators once were kept in a pond.  The alligators were eventually moved out of the Plaza due to pranks and vandals. The alligators were first brought to the plaza in the 1880's and moved to the El Paso Zoo in 1965.  They made a brief reappearance from 1972-1974, before the pond was permanently removed.
