Man admits theft and criminal damage at Carlow GAA clubhouse

A man has admitted criminal damage and theft from a cigarette vending machine at a Carlow GAA clubhouse 18 months ago.
William McCarthy (38) of Springfield Park, Carlow, pleaded guilty at Carlow Circuit Criminal Court to criminal damage of a wall and cigarette dispensing machine and theft of cigarettes and cash from the machine at Éire Óg Clubhouse, O’Brien Road, Carlow town on August 8, 2024.
Brian O’Shea BL, prosecuting, requested that a victim impact statement be prepared for the sentence hearing.
Tara Geoghegan BL, defending, said that while her client is in custody in Portlaoise Prison he is on bail for this offence. She said McCarthy wishes to relinquish his bail and be remanded now in custody. Ms Geoghegan asked that a governor’s report be prepared for the next date.
Judge Mary Morrissey adjourned the case to next Friday when a sentence date will be fixed.
