Donegal Gardaí warn of Revolut call scam

Donegal Gardaí are warning of a Revolut call scam which has been making the rounds. Garda Grainne Doherty says that fraudsters have been calling members of the public pretending to be from Revolut, and that they claim that there is suspicious activity on your account – for example that an attempt was made to purchase goods, and they ask for you to verify the transaction. The scammers then try to obtain your personal account details to try to “fix”the issue, or they may ask you to transfer your funds to a new account that they claim is “safe”, according to Garda Doherty. “In some instances, they call out the first few digits of your Revolut card to you and then ask you to provide the remaining numbers,” she said. “Scammers will often try to create a sense of urgency or panic to make the person they’re calling more likely to hand over details that they wouldn’t ordinarily provide.” “Revolut will never call you out of the blue; genuine support calls only happen through the in-app chat and the call is confirmed in advance. They will never ask you to make any payments or ask you to share any verification, PIN numbers, passwords or security codes over the phone. Hang up immediately if a call is unexpected, and report it via the app.” She has also shared advice for anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam, and already shared their bank information and/or made a bank transfer: Stop all communication with the scammer. Secure your account. Freeze your card in your Revolut app. Report the fraudulent transaction in-app. Reach out to Revolut Support via the in-app chat for assistance. Report the matter to Gardaí.
