As parliament reconvenes, Takaichi faces a balancing act
As parliament reconvenes Wednesday to formally reelect Sanae Takaichi as prime minister, all eyes are on how she will wield the power of the ruling coalition’s two-thirds majority in the Lower House and whether she’ll make good on her aim to pass the fiscal 2026 budget by March 31 — the end of the fiscal year.At a meeting of Liberal Democratic Party executives Tuesday morning, Takaichi said she was strongly determined to get the budget enacted quickly.“We’ll call on the opposition parties for cooperation and strive to pass it as soon as possible.”
