Greece's Skopelos Honored as Top Global "Slow Travel" Destination for 2026

Skopelos has secured a prestigious international distinction, ranking second on the list of top destinations to visit in 2026 for Slow Travel, according to the award-winning travel blog Just One For The Road.
The publication highlights Skopelos as a multifaceted Greek island that preserves its authentic character while offering a high-quality holiday experience. Special mention is made of the island’s unique natural beauty. Lush pine forests meet crystal-clear waters on the island, creating a harmonious landscape of “green on blue.”
The article notes that Skopelos “moves at the right pace,” shunning mass tourism in favor of serenity, balance, and a blend of relaxation and vibrant local culture. From the picturesque alleys of Chora and the traditional port to its Byzantine churches, the island epitomizes genuine Greek hospitality. Furthermore, while the island gained global fame as a filming location for Mamma Mia!, it has successfully maintained its unpretentious charm.
The recognition comes from a highly influential source; Just One For The Road was recently named Best Emerging Travel Blog in the UK, and its creator was honored as UK Travel Blogger & Writer of the Year. Skopelos stands alongside twelve other global destinations from countries including France, New Zealand, and Vietnam.

Complementing this praise, a recent feature in The Sun urged readers not to settle for mediocre travel choices, describing Skopelos as “an island that travelers fall in love with and return to again and again.” The British newspaper highlighted the island’s ability to cater to diverse interests—from Mamma Mia! fans visiting Agios Ioannis and Kastani Beach to foodies and nature lovers—all without losing its traditional identity.
“The consistent presence of Skopelos in such selective international media confirms our momentum as a premium destination,” stated Giorgos Papadavid, Municipal Councilor for Tourism. “Our upcoming participation in ITB Berlin this March will further showcase our thematic tourism offerings, including gastronomy, hiking, cycling, and our rich cultural heritage.”
