Red Hot Chili Peppers Documentary Set for Netflix Release in March
A new documentary film about Red Hot Chili Peppers is set to premiere on Netflix on March 20th.
Directed by Ben Feldman (Bug Out, Rich & Shameless), the doc is titled The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The official logline describes the film as an in-depth look at the band’s “gritty formative years” and the “singular vision of original guitarist Hillel Slovak.” Through interviews with Chili Peppers members Flea and Anthony Kiedis, along with others close to Slovak, it explores the group’s early days in the LA music scene and the “deep bond of their childhood friendship.”
“It’s a true honor to partner with Netflix to bring The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to a global audience,” Feldman said in a statement. “At its heart, this is a deeply relatable story — about the friendships that shape our identities and the lasting power of the bonds forged in adolescence. What’s less relatable, of course, is that here those friends went on to create one of the greatest rock bands in history. I’m profoundly grateful to the band and to Hillel’s family for their trust and generosity, and to Netflix for helping bring this story to the world stage.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ most recent albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen, were both released in 2022. Read our April 2022 cover story.
