NFL icon Michael Irvin issues furious response to cocaine claims after wild sideline appearance sparked concern

University of Miami legend Michael Irvin firmly shut down allegations that he was high during his appearance at the National Championship game. The controversial ex-NFL wide receiver was once again on the sidelines at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday to cheer on his alma mater in their title showdown against the Indiana Hoosiers. The 59-year-old ha frequently gone viral on social media this season for hyping up Miami in eccentric fashion on the sidelines, including with a bizarre celebration that sees him take off his belt and whip it. And Monday's National Championship was no different, leading many to question if Irvin was high as he watched his Hurricanes suffer an agonizing 27-21 defeat. But, while Irvin didn't deny to have done drugs in the past, he insisted that it wasn't the case at the college season finale. 'That's the part that tripped me out too, right?' Irvin said on Netflix's 'The White House' podcast.  Michael Irvin has gone viral for his eccentric support of Miami on the sidelines this season   The former wide receiver was no different at the National Championship game 'I'm there in front of the camera for five hours. After the game, I do a little belt thing, and everybody sends me all this, "Man, Mike, right now, he coked up right now. You all on coke." I'm like, wait a minute. First of all, y'all know damn well coke don't last for five hours. ... I hadn't partaken in 20 years. But if you got some five hour stuff, let me know. That's what I'm saying. Like stop it. Stop saying this stuff. 'When I used to get high, that's exactly what I would say, no matter who I saw, "Oh he high, too." Because you high. You want everybody to be high. Whenever you sit in your a** home, high, you want to think everybody else is high because your a** is high. I understand that, but the reality is, everybody ain't high.' Irvin and his peculiar sideline antics became the target of Saturday Night Live last weekend when the Dallas Cowboys icon was lampooned by comedian Kam Patterson. Patterson, wearing the same orange-and-green shirt he wore during Miami's win over Texas A&M, played a hilarious version of the highly-energetic Irvin in a skit with host Michael Che.'My resting heart rate is a perfect score: 16,000,' he said in the skit. 'My mama was a hummingbird, and my daddy was a brick of cocaine!'Che then mentioned that Irvin has been on the sideline throughout Miami's playoff campaign, before the show cut to an image of him watching the Hurricanes on all fours.'I got to get out of here, I got to get to Miami,' Patterson later said in his Irvin character.'The game isn't until Monday?' Che responded. The Dallas Cowboys icon shut down claims that he was on drugs while at the game  Irvin had received the SNL spoof treatment ahead of Miami's national championship gamePatterson then joked: 'Yeah, but I’m running there! I figure if I leave now, hop on 95, depending on what they’re in traffic, it should take me about six and a half hours!’'So, if you see an angry 60-year-old man running down Highway 95, well over the speed limit, with bugs all over his face, and an ass with the police tranquilizer darts, you’d better get out the way,' he added.Irvin was a three-time All-American during his time in Miami and captured the national title in his final year.He was then drafted 11th overall by Dallas and went on to win three Super Bowls, before being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Cowboys great has proven a controversial figure away from football over the years, including when he was sent home from NFL Network's Super Bowl coverage in 2023 after being accused of making inappropriate comments to a woman in a hotel, which he vehemently denied.Irvin was also accused of sexual assault over a 2007 incident at a hotel in Hollywood. Four years later, a settlement was reportedly reached in the civil lawsuit.
