Baseball star Jung Hoo Lee detained by immigration forces at Los Angeles airport
San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung-Hoo Lee was detained by immigration officers at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday.Lee was returning from his native South Korea ahead of an appearance at the Giants' annual Fan Fest this weekend.The star's agent, Scott Boras, told the San Francisco Chronicle the star was held to resolve an issue with his paperwork and that the incident was 'not anything political.'. Sources told the Associated Press that the 27-year-old didn't have the proper documents to get through customs.After roughly an hour of detainment, Lee was eventually released from custody.'Earlier today, Jung Hoo Lee experienced a brief travel issue at LAX due to a paperwork issue,' the Giants said in a statement. 'The matter was quickly clarified with the appropriate authorities, and he has since been cleared to continue his travel. We appreciate the professionalism of all parties involved.' Nancy Pelosi - the Congresswoman from San Francisco - said her office was working to resolve the issue while consulting with the Giants, partners in Congress and other federal officials.Prior to his release, Boras told the Chronicle, 'I'm not sure what was lacking but it was something with the proper paperwork. I think he just forgot one of the documents.'Lee has become a star in San Francisco after signing there from the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) in 2024.He inked a six-year, $113million contract to join the National League side that offseason.Through two seasons, the 27-year-old Lee has a career MLB batting average of .265 with ten home runs and 63 RBI.Prior to the start of the MLB season, Lee is set to compete for South Korea at the World Baseball Classic this coming March.
