Tributes paid to Irish bar owner in Lanzarote who died on 52nd wedding anniversary
Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a popular Irish bar owner in Lanzarote following his death on the day that would have marked his 52nd wedding anniversary to his late wife, Hazel.Gilbert Brown, whose family runs The Spinnaker Bar and Restaurant on the Spanish island, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12.Confirming the sad news of his passing in a social media post, his family said: “It is with heavy hearts that we regretfully inform all our friends of The Spinnaker that our father, Gilbert Brown, passed away peacefully here in Lanzarote.“Monday would have marked his and Hazel’s 52nd wedding anniversary, and we take comfort in believing they are together again.”Meanwhile, tributes have been paid to Mr Brown with one mourner describing him as a “gentleman” while another wrote on social media that he “was such a lovely guy who always offered the warmest of welcomes. Thinking of you at this sad time.”Another wrote: “Such a lovely man and so welcoming when we first started visiting The Spinnaker many years ago. May he rest in peace,” while another wrote: “Sending love and condolences to you all. Gilbert will be missed sorely by us all. May his gentle soul rest in peace.“He is now finally reunited in his beautiful wife Hazel’s loving arms.”The owners of the Rusty Nail pub and restaurant in Crossconnell in Donegal also paid tribute to Mr Brown.In a post on social media, they wrote: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Gilbert Brown. A true gentleman and great character who we had the pleasure of spending some great times with. Gilbert will be sadly missed, but we are sure that he and Hazel are reunited once again. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brown family at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”Mr Brown’s remains are to be repatriated to Donegal, where he will be laid to rest.
