Percy Jackson Season 2's Finale Will Solve My Biggest Issue With The Sea of Monsters Book
Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 7 It looks as though the finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is set to fix my biggest issue with the original Sea of Monsters book. Following the release of the penultimate episode, we know that the season's ending is set to be pretty different from what we got in Rick Riordan's original novel (something I think will be a good thing). For all its charm, I've always felt like Sea of Monsters has one of the weakest endings compared to all the other books. Keeping that in mind, it does look like Percy Jackson season 2, episode 8 will deliver a bigger and more dynamic conclusion to the season.
The Teaser For Percy Jackson Season 2's Finale Confirms Big Book Changes Are Coming
In the book, Sea of Monsters ends fairly quickly with an arguably underwhelming climax. Luke escapes on the Princess Andromeda after being exposed as the poisoner of Thalia's tree, before Percy and his friends are saved by Chiron and the Party Ponies. Thalia's tree is then healed by the Golden Fleece before Thalia Grace herself emerges to end the book as a final surprise twist. In contrast, Percy Jackson season 2's changes have already set up a more dynamic ending. Instead, the final confrontation is expected to happen at Camp Half-Blood with the campers fighting off an invasion force led by Luke, as confirmed by the teaser released for the final episode. An in-person meeting between Percy and his father has also been confirmed, rather than Poseidon simply leaving Percy a letter in the original book. Additionally, the fact that Thalia's full revival is a possible and known outcome adds even more tension for multiple characters, including Percy, who's already been shown to be concerned about what her return will mean for The Great Prophecy. All things considered, I do believe the result will be a much bigger and more dynamic ending than we got in the Sea of Monsters novel, offering more emotional payoff, action, and greater ties to the series' overarching plot.
Every Big Change In Percy Jackson Season 2 Has Been An Improvement

So far, I feel as though Percy Jackson season 2’s changes have consistently strengthened the story. New scenes have added greater tension, given greater spotlights to certain characters, deepened relationships, and helped clarify motivations that were only lightly explored in the books. As a longtime fan of the books, I appreciate how involved creator Rick Riordan has been in the show's production, as it really does feel like most of these changes are being made to refine and add new layers to his work, rather than taking things away.
With a much larger scale and stronger ties to the overarching plot, it does seem as though Percy Jackson season 2's finale has the potential to be more satisfying and perhaps even better than the original book's ending.
