Photo courtesy of Garden State Comic Fest Pop culture fans in New Jersey are looking ahead to a few big events, namely, Winterfest this weekend, and the Garden State Anime Fest set for April. Both events will be held at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, and feature a long list of creators, celebrities, dealers and cosplay groups. Winterfest will run Saturday, Jan. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. day. Garden State Animefest is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with doors opening one half hour earlier for those with a VIP pass. Admission to both events is $10, with children under 10 free. During Winterfest, comic book lovers will meet legendary creators like Larry Hama, the mind behind GI Joe, along with Amy Chu, Scott Hanna, Jan Duursema, Keith Williams, Tom Cook, and many more. Attendees can explore two exhibitor halls filled with collectibles, comics, graphic novels, toys, apparel, and unique memorabilia — catering to every pop culture passion, from vintage finds to the latest releases. April’s Garden State Animefest is a celebration of everything anime, with cosplayers recreating their favorite characters, vendors, and guests such as Linda Ballantyne, Susan Roman and Katie Griffin, who helped voice the iconic “Sailor Moon” anime series.
