'Hit-and-run' driver 'who killed father-of-two as he walked his dog near village church' appears in court
An alleged 'hit-and-run' driver has appeared in court accused of killing a father-of-two while he walked his dog near a village church.Aaron Jones, 38, died two days before Christmas in 2024 after being hit by a car which is said to have then left the scene.Takeaway worker Daniel Wyke, 28, is charged with causing Mr Jones' death by dangerous driving.A search was launched at the time for Mr Jones after a local found his dog wandering aimlessly around the village of Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire.The father-of-two's body was discovered on the grounds of the church by the road.Mr Jones was described as a 'lovely guy' who did lots of work for his local area.Local councillor Bryan Davies said the village was 'so quiet' following his 'tragic' death.Mr Jones' employer Andrew Pullman also paid tribute, writing: 'We are all overwhelmed with grief at the loss of our colleague and friend, Aaron Jones. Wyke, of Carmarthen, has now appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court where he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address. No indication of plea was given.He was bailed to appear at Swansea Crown Court next month.Wyke was charged 12 months after Aaron's death.Speaking at the time, Sergeant Sara John of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Dyfed-Powys Police said: 'Our thoughts remain with Aaron's family, who continue to be at the heart of this investigation.'We recognise that this has been a lengthy investigation, and I am grateful to Aaron's family, and the wider community, for their patience and support while our enquiries have been carried out.'We will continue to support Aaron's family as the case progresses, and we seek to provide justice for Aaron and his loved ones.'An inquest previously heard father-of-two Aaron's had been walking his dog when his body was found near Caer Salem Baptist Chapel.He was pronounced dead at the scene.
