Enoch Burke released from jail
Castlebar man, Enoch Burke, has been released from Mountjoy Prison.
A High Court judge ordered his release so that he can prepare for an upcoming legal challenge against the work of a Disciplinary Appeals Panel (DAP).
Mr Burke was sent to prison for a fourth time last November.
To date, he has spent over 550 days behind bars for failing to obey a court order to stay away from Wilson’s Hospital School.
It has been three years since he was formally dismissed from his teaching role but he has continued to show up for work, insisting he is entitled to do so.
A DAP is considering whether his dismissal should be upheld but its work has been put on hold after Mr Burke was given permission to bring a legal challenge.
Today, Mr Justice Brian Cregan ordered Mr Burke’s release from prison to allow him to properly prepare for his case.He said it was in the interests of justice.
Mr. Burke told him he will back at the school tomorrow.
If he does show up, the judge said he wouldn’t hesitate in returning him to prison.
