It's taken years to develop, but the time is finally right to unlock the most mystical of Spider-Man superpowers as his role in the MCU gets bigger than ever. With so many reports and rumors about the new challenges Spider-Man will face in Brand New Day, fans can only guess just what lies in store with Avengers: Secret Wars. But thanks to Marvel, Peter Parker has one gift that can give him an edge his fellow Avengers would kill for.

By now the world knows all about Peter Parker's signature 'Spider-Sense,' a detection of danger so finely tuned, it gives him a subconscious warning with enough of a head-start to allow him to avoid harm. And while the physics or physiology of this incredible gift may be up for debate, it pales in comparison to the more recent evolution of the power, extending well beyond the realm of spider science (or that of any animal, really). As explained in Spider-Man's entry in the landmark Marvel Comics #1000, Peter Parker's nightly route through New York City is not random, but repeated with purpose. Visiting tragic, traumatic, or otherwise deeply meaningful locations from Peter's past is more than a mental exercise, as he explains these sites trigger his Spider-Sense:
"It alerts me to danger. But in certain places... it's kind of... I don't know how to explain it... It lingers. It hurts like an old scar."
There is no denying it: this evolution of the Spider-Sense from merely physical detection to a physical manifestation of something else, be it memory, emotion, or tangible 'residue,' changes things. And considering Spider-Man's larger link to the Web of Destiny which spreads across the Marvel Multiverse, giving Peter a means of detecting what has happened, and where it took place, primes him for the reality-warping on the way with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars coming to the MCU.

For now, fans are still forced to spin only Spider-Man/Doomsday theories as the pieces of Doctor Doom's plan fall into place. And while it's clear Doctor Doom will be mixing, remixing, and breaking down multiple different realities and versions of the Marvel Universe, just how the classic MCU heroes will be thrown into the mix is still up in the air. Given that, Peter Parker's ability to detect if a reality is his own, how it's different, and how history might have unfolded differently in a matter of seconds, makes his evolved Spider-Sense a priceless advantage. And in a fight against Doom, every second counts.
Only time will tell if the MCU Spider-Man is finally given this massive extra-sensory advantage, but the potential seems too promising for Marvel to pass up.
