"Very, very obvious" - Manchester United player fuming with referee decision
Manchester United will be welcoming Bryan Mbeumo back in the next few days after Cameroon were knocked out of AFCON.
The winger had this week been encouraged to be more selfish in his play for Cameroon. Mbeumo was thought to be sacrificing himself too much for the team, and therefore dimming his own star.
Mbeumo had been urged to think more about himself and go and win awards for best player at the tournament and in Africa generally. However, it was always going to be difficult against hosts Morocco.
They’ve been favourites for most people since before the tournament began, and that remains the case as they move into the quarterfinals.
After the 2-0 loss, Mbeumo was naturally disappointed, with the Manchester United player particularly disappointed with an officiating decision.
Manchester United player unhappy with decision
The Manchester United player believes he should have been awarded a penalty. That was when the score was 1-0, subsequently it would have made a huge difference to the match.
Mbeumo feels he was fouled by Torino’s Adam Masina, however, it was waved away.
RMC quote the winger as saying: “I felt he touched me. And they showed me the footage after the match: it’s very, very obvious.
“I don’t know what else to say, I don’t know if this match was decided solely on that. Unfortunately, we were a bit reluctant to play in the first half, that’s one of the only regrets we can have. We controlled the second half, except for their goal. It’s part of the game, we also knew what to expect.
“We have a very good team, with a lot of quality. We are very disappointed, and I hate losing, but we have a very good group, which is young. This experience will enrich us.”
Back to changes at Premier League club
Whilst Bryan Mbeumo has been away, there’s been a few changes at Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim has been shown the door and now the narrative is about what happens from here. The Cameroon international is likely to find a different system when he’s back at Carrington.
Whilst the FA Cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion comes too soon, Mbeumo will hope to be available for the next match.
That’s the small matter of Manchester City at Old Trafford, on Saturday January 17th.
